In Tuscany you can find pretty much any wonder you may desire to make your wedding, your engagement or your elopement unforgettable: the most renowned art cities, medieval villages, charming holiday farms, unspoilt nature and of course delicious food.
Florence is one of the most renowned romantic cities in the world, while Siena, Pisa and Lucca are open-air museums.
Every year many couples from all over the world come to this beautiful land to celebrate truly unique and special weddings and events, collecting the most precious memories on backdrops of absolute beauty.
Getting married in Tuscany
Just one walk amongst the vineyards and you will be enchanted by the hills, so soft and sinuous.
Tuscany offers simply wonderful views, which are pretty unique in the Italian Countryside too.
Many filmmakers have chosen these places to set up the most romantic films such as “Under the Tuscan Sun” and “Letters to Juliet”, in which you can breathe the typical mood of Tuscany lands.
Starting from the surroundings of Florence, through Chianti and San Gimignano, towards Siena and the Val D’Orcia, you just go seamless from one wonder to another.
You may find one of the most authentic and interesting moods in the Medicean Villas, scattered amidst Florence, Lucca, Prato, Pistoia and Pisa.
These gorgeous villas usually lie on top of the hills, with gardens and terraces overlooking a scenery which we can call breathtaking at least.
The Italian countryside in all its allure, with its with cypresses, paths and narrow streets, the carved slopes that draw abstract and geometric figures, as in piece by Fontana.
I would have loved to make a list of my favorite or most renowned venues, but the truth is that it is actually impossible to find a Medicean Villa which is just a little less than elegant and sophisticated and at the same time authentic and evocative, so I would have risked to let out that very gem you’ve fall in love with and that I’d love to hear about.
Another truly suggestive area is of course Chianti, which is located between the provinces of Siena, Arezzo and Florence
In addition to the precious and famous red wine DOCG, which got the same name as the area where its vines are grown, here in Chianti you can find millenary castles that rise placid on the heights, surrounded by Italian gardens, born in these very areas during the Renaissance, and rows of cypresses.
Have you considered the idea of celebrating your wedding in a Tuscan castle?
Because, talking about castles, you could perhaps find the perfect location for you in the area between Volterra and Certaldo, especially around San Gimignano.
And of course we cannot forget to mention the Castle of Vincigliata.
Dating back to the 11th century, it passed from hand to hand by several Florentine aristocratic families until it’s been took over by a British lord who has been able to restore the castle to its former glory.
There is also a legend, which tells about the ghost of a girl, called the white woman, who died of a broken heart soon after the killing of her beloved, still lingers in the castle, protecting all the love stories that pass by, especially the most hindered ones.
San Galgano is another typical Tuscan place with incomparable charm, its Abbey is just enchanting, full of myths and legends, where time seems to have stopped.
In the circular hermitage guarding the tomb of San Galgano, there is the “sword in the stone”, a sword in a rock that is said to have been stuck by Galgano himself as a vow of abandoning the mundane life and embracing God.
A truly mystical place with a fascinating Gothic church and a ruined monastery, set in the wonderful Tuscan scenery, the perfect place to celebrate a civil ceremony.
In many areas of central and southern Italy, time and centuries haven’t changed urban morphology that much and this has allowed the preservation of beautiful medieval hamlets, which are often restored and maintained as tourism facilities and locations for private events.
In Tuscany in particular, but fortunately in the whole central and southern Italy, these farsighted initiatives are catching on, and small jewels, as the so called scattered hotels, can be used to stay close with your guests to celebrate weddings and events as real experiences of joyful and profound closeness with all the people involved.
Even in this case, there are many options, but places such as Borgo Stomenanno and the whole area between Montalcino and Montepulciano can be a great starting point.
Tuscany, like the rest of the Italian countryside, is also rich in rural estates and farms, which are often exquisitely kept by the owners and transformed into perfect venues for weddings and intimate events, for those who prefer atmospheres with that antique flavor, in a subtle and familiar luxury mix that was peculiar of the noble summer estates.
A wedding or an event in Tuscany definitely means art and beauty, romantic views and suggestive sunsets.
Probably Tuscany, along with other areas of the Italian countryside, is one of the best places to celebrate an outdoor reception, a banquet at sunset with candlelight, inebriated by the scent of vines and wisteria.
It is the ideal place if you want to breathe the taste of ancient times, made of tradition and charm. All naturally enhanced by excellent wine and one of the world’s most beloved and exquisite cuisines.
Tuscany Wedding Photographer
Tuscany, as the most part of the Italian Apennines, is certainly one of the most scenographic places, photographically speaking. The light flows warm through the hills and cypresses, projecting long sublime shadows.
You may have already read somewhere else in this website that cypresses are part of my personal poetic iconography: I always imagine that my favorite writers and artists have seen the same scenarios and have been inspired by them.
So we can say that Tuscany is perfect for intimate and heart-felt couple sessions and ceremonies, and any special moment can be enhanced by the gentle nature, the pastel colors, the artistic beauties and the charm of tradition.
The light that plays between the vineyards, landscapes which are probably unique in the world, so beautiful to take away your breath, the romantic alleyways of the villages… the idea is to use all this peculiar elements that characterize these wonderful places to make of every photo a small piece of art and then create a photographic story that will help you keep the memory of your event, no matter if it’s a wedding, an elopement or a romantic trip for your engagement.
Surely as a wedding photographer I couldn’t have been more lucky to be so close to a place like Tuscany, which is a bit of a symbol, along with other places like Venice, Rome, Apulia and the Amalfi Coast, of Italian beauty, art, poetry and everything that can make a journey or a celebration here the most intense and suggestive ever.
